This course is part of the module "Wissenschaftliche Methoden/Research Methods" offered for Bachelor students in the programs Betriebswirtschaft or International Management as well as for ERASMUS students. All topics for the seminar papers and the specific scientific methods taught will be from the field of finance, more specifically we will cover the technical analysis of capital market data. Course language will be English.

Course Objective: Students will get acquainted with basic research methods. They will be able to to write scientific papers on their own. In addition to formal requirements (citation techniques, style and structure of a seminar paper or a case study, use of tools like Citavi) students will acquire in-depth knowledge of scientific methods applied in finance. With these methods, they will be able to research, analyze and critically discuss a specific topic on their own in a scientific paper written in LaTeX, to prepare a professional presentation for the group and defend their results in a critical discussion.

Prerequisite: All topics require the ability to professionally visualize data and do statistical analyses in R. It is expected that you already successfully passed the modules "Mathematics", "Statistics" and "Applied Computer Sciences" or at least have the competencies expected from these modules. Students will learn advanced R applications in finance with the help of learning videos on DataCamp. The DataCamp certificates will contribute towards the final grade.

Sessions: The course will start March 18th and meet regularly  on Mondays from 2 pm to 5.10 pm in Room # W1.09. There might be additional "evening sessions" on Zoom (about Financial Time Series in R).
