Unlocking the Power of Gamification – practical case demonstration via an intercultural virtual Escape Room

By Sara Lorenzo Ros and Elizabeth Frank, University CEU San Pablo, Spain

In this session we will discuss the benefits of gamification in Education and will focus on the use of Virtual Escape Room scenarios to increase international collaboration and intercultural intelligence.

First, we will provide a general introduction to gamification, quickly focussing on virtual escape rooms. We will introduce some findings obtained from research conducted at University CEU San Pablo, highlighting data related to effectiveness of this type of gamification in achieving educational goals and fostering cross-cultural understanding. We will also relate how virtual escape rooms leverage digital technology to create immersive and interactive experiences for students within the classroom and across borders.

Furthermore, we will focus on the engaging Learning Experience and how virtual escape rooms promote international teamwork and collaboration among students in a very efficient manner by sharing real-life examples of how virtual escape rooms have been successfully implemented in educational settings.

Finally, we will showcase how these types of activities can inspire creativity and innovation as students devise strategies and think outside the box to overcome challenges, by having the participants experience a Virtual Escape Room Challenge in the classroom.

There will be room for discussion, questions, feedback, and final conclusions.
