Conten: In this course, you will learn the fundamentals of supply chains from a financial perspective, understand the basics of management control and how to use these for SCM, as well as get a basic understanding of making outsourcing decisions. You will always apply your newly acquired knowledge in real-life case studies. The following topics will be covered:
- Financial perspective on logistics and supply chains
- Basics of management control & controlling the value chain
- Outsourcing decisions: opportunities & risks
- Management accounting tools to support outsourcing decisions
- Sustainability in SCM controlling & outsourcing decisions
Exam / grading: solving case studies, present "hot topics" of SCM controlling and written exam at the end of the semester.
Credits: part of study focus (VT) Logistics & Supply Chain Management
Dates: course takes place on Thursdays, in general, every other week (first class, 08.10.), sometimes 9.45 to 11.15, but mostly 9.45 to 13.15.

Logistics is usually only visible when it falters, so logistical processes and supply chain management became very present during the COVID19 pandemic, the blockade in the Suez Canal and currently during the ongoing Ukraine war. Empty shelves,stopped production lines and hoarding (massive stockpiling) are the consequence.
How global supply chains work, what logistics and the subtasks of logistics have to do with it and what they can do to avoid supply bottlenecks is part of the advanced course Logistics and Supply Chain Management.
